Kitui: Police, Clergy Warn Against Crime, Deadly Brew

Mwingi Central Assistant County Commissioner Jumba Bromly has warned residents of Mavoko, Mwingi sub-county, Kitui county against committing crimes in the area.

He noted that the main reason for insecurity is poor parenting and called on all parents to be responsible for their children by taking them to school.

“I’m warning the illicit brewers, I already have your names with me and I’m giving you up next week to look for another thing to do.”

Jumba also directed chiefs and sub-chiefs to get the names of the landlords and tenants within the town.

He spoke in Mwingi town on Friday when he attended a security meeting planned by Mavoko residents.

The officers warned a group dubbed B13 which is causing insecurity in the area.

According to Corporal Ali Omar of Maingi police station, the area also experiences cases of drug abuse, mugging, and abortions.

“In this area, there are notorious gang groups; Kayole and B13. We don’t understand why you are doing so but we are coming for you. You can’t stay in this community,” he warned.

He warned those in the groups to refrain from such actions or face legal consequences.

Father Antony Mutio, for his part, urged residents to help the street children by providing them with food.

“I’m appealing to the county government to provide a rehabilitation centre to help these street children in Mavoko. I’m also appealing to all Catholics, as we continue fasting during this Lent season, let us give that food to these boys and girls, ” he said.

Father Mutio also urged the residents to turn to God and work out their differences rather than committing suicide.
