Kitui Governor Dr. Julius Malombe today commissioned three major development projects in Voo/Kyamatu Ward during his development tour of Kitui East Sub-County, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to improving access to healthcare, water, and transport infrastructure across the county.

The Governor began his development tour by commissioning the 150-metre Thua Drift located along the Kiangini–Thua River–Kyukuni road in Voo/Kyamatu Ward. The project, which is already in use by residents, has greatly improved connectivity and eased movement within the area, particularly during rainy seasons when river crossings have traditionally posed challenges to transport and trade.

Residents welcomed the project, noting that it has enhanced accessibility, reduced travel difficulties, and improved the movement of goods and services within the ward.

The Governor later officially opened the newly constructed outpatient block and laboratory at Kyamatu Dispensary. The modern facility is expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery in the area by improving diagnostic services and creating a better environment for patients seeking medical care.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Governor Malombe said the county government remains focused on strengthening healthcare infrastructure to ensure residents can access quality and affordable healthcare services closer to their homes.

In a major boost to water access, Governor Malombe also officially commissioned the Kaluasi Borehole Water Supply Project, implemented under the County Government’s Equalization Fund Programme.

The project is already operational and is providing clean and safe water to approximately 1,100 residents and more than 2,350 livestock in the area. It comprises the drilling and equipping of a borehole, installation of a pumping system, pipeline extensions, construction of water drawing points and storage tanks, as well as air valves and washout valves to facilitate efficient water distribution and management.

The Governor described access to clean water as a fundamental necessity and emphasized that the county government will continue investing in sustainable water projects to improve livelihoods and support economic activities in rural communities.

Residents expressed their appreciation for the transformative projects, saying they will not only improve service delivery but also contribute to better health outcomes, enhanced mobility, and increased access to reliable water supplies.

The commissioning of the three projects marks another milestone in the county government’s ongoing efforts to deliver development projects that directly impact the lives of residents and promote socio-economic growth across Kitui County.

The County boss was accompanied by Deputy Governor Augustine Kanani, Area MCA Hon. Zack Syengo, Chuluni MCA Hon. Mathew Vuthi, and several County Cabinet members.
