Kitui leaders have called on investigative agencies to urgently bring to book the alleged assailants who attacked Nguni Ward MCA and Kitui County Assembly Minority Leader Hon. Jeremiah Musee Mutua on January 17, 2026, during the burial ceremony of the mother of Nuu Ward MCA Hon. Judith Wanza.
The leaders, led by Mwingi Central MP Hon. Gideon Mulyungi and Kitui County Assembly Speaker Hon. Kevin Kinengo Katisya, made the remarks during a thanksgiving ceremony for Hon. Jeremiah Mutua at the New Apostolic Church in Myuuni, Nguni Ward, Mwingi Central Constituency.
They expressed concern that more than two months after the incident, the suspects remain free, raising suspicions of foul play by investigative officers from Nuu and Mwingi Central.
“We are giving the police a 7-day ultimatum to conclude investigations into this matter. Failure to do so will compel us to escalate the issue directly to the President, as it appears some officers may have been compromised to sabotage the case. I will also personally seek justice through the courts for Hon. Jeremiah Mutua. We will not stand by silently while our people are assaulted,” said Speaker Kevin Kinengo.
Hon. Harrison Maluki, the Majority Leader and MCA for Migwani, noted that leaders present at the event witnessed the assault on Hon. Mutua but refrained from taking the law into their own hands.
“As law-abiding citizens, we chose not to retaliate. Justice for the Nguni MCA must now be served through proper legal channels,” he said.
Hon. Muthengi Ndagara, the Deputy Majority Whip and MCA for Tharaka, criticized the delay, pointing out that the assailants continue to walk freely in Mwingi Town despite assaulting a people’s representative.
“We urge the President to transfer the police officers handling this case, as their prolonged inaction suggests they may have been influenced or bribed to slow down the process,” he stated.
Nguni MCA Hon. Jeremiah Mutua expressed frustration over the prolonged delay, despite having provided all necessary evidence including video footage and witness statements to expedite the investigation.
“I urge the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other investigative agencies to speed up the process. The assailants are clearly identifiable in the video and statements. They must be arrested and arraigned in court promptly. If a leader like me can be subjected to such an assault without immediate consequences, what hope is there for the ordinary people we represent?” he added.
