The Safaricom Chief Corporate Security officer, Mr. Nicholas Mulila has given an input on self reliance and corporate governance to the Diocesan Pastoral Council members who are having their meeting at Kitui Pastoral Centre.
In his presentation, Mr. Mulila has urged lay leaders and clergy to adopt exemplary leadership qualities, emphasizing transparency, accountability, and honesty.

He advised them to establish effective controls, for managing resources within their parishes.
Additionally, he has emphasized the importance of hiring the right people and enlightening all in management about financial literacy.

On the topic of self-reliance, Mr. Mulila encouraged leaders to adopt long-term goals and develop leadership grounded in a clear vision.
He discouraged lay leaders from clinging to leadership positions indefinitely, instead advocating for the empowerment and mentorship of others to take over in the future.

He also challenged leaders to think innovatively about diversifying revenue streams to support diocesan and parish programs while initiating new self-reliance projects.
Highlighting the importance of environmental stewardship, Mr. Mulila stressed that caring for the environment, both at small and large scales, is vital for achieving self-reliance.

Additionally, he emphasized the importance of building social capital, urging leaders to foster partnerships that can advance the diocese/parishes and enhance its sustainability.
