Residents of Endui village in Mwingi, Kitui county are mourning the death of a police officer and a teenage boy who drowned in the Keiya earth dam.
On February 20, Daniel Kasina, 40, fell off the dam bank while attempting to save a drowning 15-year-old secondary school student, Daudi Mwandima, who had gone to fetch water with his friends but instead decided to swim in the dam.
Mwingi Central Deputy OCPD Nicholas Mutuma confirmed the incident and warned residents not to swim in the dam.
Following the incident, the residents requested that the dam be fenced off.
