Kivutha Kibwana, the outgoing governor of Makueni, has joined President-elect William Ruto’s legal team ahead of a Supreme Court battle in which the latter is expected to defend his electoral victory.
The constitutional law expert who held a meeting with President-Elect William Ruto at his Karen residence on Tuesday will be part of the coalition’s legal team in the ongoing presidential petition.
Ruto who made the announcement on Twitter said the Muungano Party leader had agreed to work with his team to further the country’s development.
“We associate with the leadership that Prof Kivutha Kibwana has manifested in agreeing to work with us in furthering our country’s development agenda,” DP Ruto stated after the meeting.
“The Makueni Governor will join the Kenya Kwanza legal team in the ongoing presidential election petition. At the Karen Residence, welcomed Governor Kibwana to Kenya Kwanza accompanied by other leaders,” he added.
This comes after IEBC boss Wafula Chebukati declared last week that Dr Ruto had won the race to become President-elect with 50.49 percent of the vote.
However, Azimio has since declared the declaration null and void.
