KLM, the Dutch national airline, will begin direct flights from the Netherlands to Kenya’s coast in October, bolstering the tourism sector’s recovery from the devastation of Covid-19.
Beginning October 31, the airline will fly two flights per week between Amsterdam and Mombasa, on Thursday and Sunday, utilizing the high capacity Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, with a loop to Nairobi from Mombasa.
KLM will join a slew of other airlines, including Ethiopian and other European carriers, that fly straight to Mombasa, delivering much-needed tourist traffic to Kenya’s coast after the epidemic devastated the industry.
According to Arthur Dieffenthaler, KLM’s General Manager for East Africa, the flights to Mombasa would mostly cater to leisure passengers.
“KLM comes in to offer a superior and memorable flying experience both for first time and regular flyers to East Africa from our hub in Amsterdam. Because of positive developments regarding the pandemic in various regions, we see an increasing demand for direct flights,” he added.
