According to the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) 2023 Economic Survey report, the number of men who have undergone sterilization vasectomy has more than doubled in just one year.
Vasectomy is a surgical procedure that permanently prevents pregnancy by cutting or sealing the sperm tubes.
The number of men who chose vasectomy increased to 557 from 248 the previous year, according to the report, which examined the use of modern contraceptives in health facilities from 2018 to 2022.
According to the report, 334 men underwent vasectomy procedures in 2020, a significant decrease from 658 in 2018 and 646 in 2018.
Other methods of contraception, such as Family Planning (FP) Injections, remained the most popular method of contraception in 2022, with 2.6 million Kenyans opting for it, followed by Implant Insertions, which had 1.1 million clients.
