Police Investigate Grisly Murder of Man in A Kenyatta National Hospital Ward
A disturbing incident has shaken the nation’s largest referral hospital, Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), after a patient was brutally killed in his ward, leaving patients and their relatives living in fear.
The body of the unidentified patient was found early on Friday, February 7, with his throat slit, sparking a police investigation into the gruesome attack.
Eyewitnesses claim that the killer, believed to be an intruder, gained access to the ward before carrying out the heinous act, leaving authorities stunned by the breach of security at the hospital.
“This is a tragic event that has left the whole nation in shock,” said a hospital spokesperson. “We are cooperating fully with the police investigation and conducting our own internal inquiry to determine how this incident occurred.”
KNH has come under fire in the past for similar security breaches, including a 2015 incident where a male patient was stabbed to death in his hospital bed while sharing a ward with an incapacitated cancer patient.
In that case, three nurses were on duty at the time of the attack but failed to report or witness anything. A 12-year-old deaf and mute patient was the only one present and unable to raise the alarm.
A post-mortem report revealed that the victim, Cosmas Mutunga, had been stabbed 42 times and suffered severe internal injuries, including a crushed skull and gouged-out eyes.
The recent attack has raised concerns about whether KNH has taken sufficient measures to prevent similar incidents from occurring again.
“We understand that our patients and their families are concerned about the safety of our wards, and we assure them that we are taking this incident very seriously,” said the hospital spokesperson.
Police are working to piece together the events surrounding the attack, but the failure of CCTV cameras in the ward has raised questions about the hospital’s preparedness for emergencies.
