KNH ‘Unaware’ Of Jack Ma COVID Donations

Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) has confirmed it did not recieve Chinese philanthropist Jack Ma’s Covid-19 donations.

Appearing before a Parliamentary committee, the hospital’s top executives claimed that the contributions they received during the pandemic came from the Kenya Medical Supplies agency, according to Kenyatta National Hospital CEO Evanson Kamuri.

The unlabeled donations included various personal protection equipment, and the hospital had no way of knowing if they came from Jack Ma.

In Nairobi, Ethiopia, the Chinese billionaire delivered 21 shipments with undefined amounts of testing kits and safety gear.

“Some of them will automatically be missing because we did not get specifics of the donor. We received Covid-19 donations during the height of the pandemic from Kemsa just like other institutions,” Kamuri said.

KNH also received Sh600 million from the exchequer for the Covid-19 emergency reaction, according to the CEO.

During the pandemic, the referral hospital was added a further Sh140 million to help with health workers treatment.

The Public Accounts Committee of the National Assembly, directed by Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi, has been looking into how the Covid-19 monies were used by various government agencies throughout the pandemic.

The Auditor General Nancy Gathungu’s special report on the use of the Covid-19 funding is currently being examined by the oversight committee.
