A middle-aged man said to be a conductor at KNN SACCO in Kikuyu was arraigned in court today where he faced charges of causing grievous harm contrary to the Law.
John Gichuki Kivuti is charged with assaulting Milka Mbugua within Tom Mboya Street in Nairobi under unclear circumstances.
The said assault is said to have occurred on June 28, 2022, when a misunderstanding between the two occurred prompting the accused person to assault Miss Mbugua occasioning her serious injuries on her face.
However, the accused person through his lawyer questioned his unlawful detention after arrest.
According to his lawyer, the suspect was detained for over 24 hours contrary to the law.
The prosecution counsel being unable to explain to the court the causes of the detention, petitioned the court to issue summons to the investigating officer to appear before the court and shed light on the unlawful detention.
The suspect denied particulars of the charges before Magistrate Gilbert Shikwe and was released on a bond of Ksh 300,000 with an alternative cash bail of Ksh 100,000.
