Koundé Scores Twice in Three Minutes to Rescue Barcelona

Jules Kounde produced an unlikely brace as Barcelona overturned a first half deficit to beat Eintracht Frankfurt 2 to 1 and strengthen their push toward the Champions League places.

The defender struck twice in three minutes early in the second half to lift Barcelona to 14th in the table, two points from the top eight.

Barcelona had dominated the early exchanges and thought they had broken through when Robert Lewandowski found the net, only for the goal to be ruled out for an offside by Raphinha in the buildup.

Gerard Martin soon forced Michael Zetterer into a strong save as the hosts pressed for an opener.

Frankfurt struck first against the run of play in the 21st minute. Ansgar Knauff outpaced Alejandro Balde to reach a pass from Nathaniel Brown and guided a composed finish into the bottom right corner.

The visitors nearly added a second just before the interval when Ellyes Skhiri met a loose ball on the edge of the area but sent his effort narrowly over.

Barcelona responded with renewed energy after the break. Marcus Rashford, introduced at halftime, created the equaliser only five minutes into the second period with a curled cross that allowed Kounde to head in from close range.

Three minutes later the defender rose again, this time meeting a precise delivery from Lamine Yamal to nod past Zetterer.

Ferran Torres came close to extending the lead with a driven strike that flew just wide, while Frankfurt struggled to regain the control they had shown late in the first half.

Barcelona closed out the match with few alarms and secured a much needed win in a turbulent season.
