The newly constructed Kipevu road in Mombasa county has been officially commissioned.
The road was built in partnership between the UK Government, Kenya Ports Authority, and Trademark East Africa.
The road, which is part of the port of Mombasa’s rehabilitation and development scheme, runs from Changamwe roundabout to KPA Gate 18, with an extra 200 meters inside the port area.
According to KPA General Manager Infrastructure Development Vincent Sidai, the road will increase port capacity by improving traffic flow in and out of the port, as well as provide other economic benefits such as improved service delivery.

The total project cost was Kshs 2,048,000,000 funded jointly by KPA and Trade Mark EA, at Ksh 1,528,000,000 and Kshs 520,000,000 respectively.
Port of Mombasa handles 30,923 million tons annually with traffic projected to increase to 50 mil tons by 2030.
“Modernizing port infrastructure is critical for unlocking the region’s economic potential and lowering logistics costs associated with imports and exports.” KPA Tweeted.
