The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) is leveraging cutting-edge technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Blockchain, to modernize tax collection and enhance its role in international trade.

This move aligns with the rapid technological changes reshaping business operations.

During the KRA Summit 2024 in Nairobi, Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga highlighted the critical role of technology in transforming taxpayer services and operational efficiency.

He noted that integrating tools like Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), AI, and Machine Learning would increase tax revenue while fostering transparency and trust in the system.

“KRA recognizes the transformative power of technology in taxpayer services and operational efficiency,” Wattanga said, emphasizing that these reforms will improve revenue mobilization and compliance.

The three-day summit, themed “Powering Trade Facilitation and Domestic Resource Mobilization in the Digital Age,” brought together global stakeholders to address tax challenges such as digital trade, cybersecurity, and gender equality in tax systems.

Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi stressed the need for innovative tax frameworks to tackle issues like tax evasion and illicit financial flows.

The summit aimed to develop solutions that strengthen Kenya’s tax system and promote fair contributions from all sectors.
