Taxpayers have less than a week to take advantage of the amnesty, which reduces fines and legal actions by up to 50% on interest and outstanding penalties.

The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has collected a total of Sh8.54 billion under the Voluntary Tax Declaration Programme (VTDP), and taxpayers must join up, declare, and pay before December 31 to take advantage of the offer.

Defaulters who report pending liabilities and pay within the first year will receive a 100 percent interest and penalty remission under the scheme, which began in January 2021 and extends through December 2023.

Businesses and individuals that report and pay their outstanding tax bill during the program’s second year will get a 50% refund.
