The Kenya Revenue Authority will on Monday, October 3 launch KRA TV, a web-based television station.
According to a statement sent by the taxman on Friday, September 30, the idea for the creation of the television station was to help users become acquainted with relevant information pertaining to taxes and customs.
“The station is envisioned to enhance tax literacy in the country through the dissemination of simplified tax and customs content,” the statement reads in part.
“This is aimed at enhancing tax compliance and propelling the tax base in the country,” KRA announced.Â
The station will broadcast customized tax content for the public to consume at their leisure.
Scheduled live programming of tax awareness activities such as tax talks, tax Thursdays, story za ushuru, and other education programs will be among the key features on TV.
“The ‘KRA TV’ platform will drive a demand-based viewership. The station will host customized tax content that the public may consume at their convenience,” deputy commissioner in charge of marketing and communication, Grace Wandera added.Â
Among the many other programs, she stated that the TV will air a wide range of simplified and downloadable content for various taxpayer categories.
“The TV station will be unveiled during the launch of the 2022 taxpayers month. The annual event is usually organised to appreciate compliant taxpayers for their patriotic act of dutifully remitting their taxes towards the country’s development agenda,’ KRA said.
The launch of KRA TV will coincide with the authority’s “Taxpayers’ Month,” which is observed annually to recognize compliant taxpayers. The month is dedicated to educating taxpayers about the advantages of having a self-sufficient economy powered by tax revenue.
In addition, the authority will award outstanding taxpayers for the year in an event dubbed “Taxpayers Award Ceremony.”
