The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has cautioned the public after their official @KRACare X (formerly Twitter) account was hacked and renamed “StandsX.”
In a statement released via their general X account, KRA confirmed that unknown individuals had gained unauthorized access to the customer care handle and altered its name.
The tax authority warned the public against engaging with the compromised account, sharing personal details, or sending any form of money in response to messages or posts made from it.
“Members of the public are strongly warned not to engage, share personal information, or send money to any messages or posts from this account, as they are fraudulent,” KRA said in the statement.
The Authority assured the public that it has launched urgent efforts, in collaboration with X (formerly Twitter), to retrieve and secure the official account.
KRA further emphasized that all official updates will be communicated only through its verified communication channels.
The public has been advised to use KRA’s verified Facebook page, facebook.com/KRACare, or reach out via WhatsApp on 0711 099 999 for assistance or inquiries.
As seen by Uzalendo News, the hacked account now bears the name “StandsX,” though the bio section remains unchanged.
The page still displays previous posts and retweets made by KRA, and its description continues to list it as a financial services company with KRA’s original location and postal details.
Notably, no new posts have been made since the hackers took over the account.
KRA has been making headlines in the past 24 hours following a tragic incident at its Lake Basin Mall offices in Kisumu, where a middle-aged man reportedly jumped from the second floor on Thursday, October 30, 2025.
In a statement released the same day, the Authority confirmed that the man sustained severe injuries from the fall and later succumbed.
KRA expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy, extending condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.
The incident has since been reported to the relevant authorities, with investigations underway to establish the circumstances surrounding it.
KRA indicated that it is fully cooperating with law enforcement agencies to facilitate the ongoing probe.
KRA has assured Kenyans of its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of public information as it works to restore the integrity of its online platforms and maintain public trust.
