As the academic year comes to a close, thousands of Kenyan students await the next crucial step in their educational journey – university placement.
The process can be both exciting and nerve-wracking, as it determines which institution they will attend for higher education.
Fortunately, the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has made it convenient for students to check their university placement. There have been two alternatives availed for checking ones placement: via SMS or by logging on to the KUCCPS official website
To access their placement status through the KUCCPS website, students should follow these simple steps:
- Visit the KUCCPS official website: Students need to log on to the KUCCPS website at www.kuccps.net. It’s essential to ensure that you are accessing the official website to avoid any potential scams.
- Click on “Student Portal”: On the KUCCPS website, locate and click on the “Student Portal” option.
- Log in: Students must enter their registered KCSE (Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education) index number and the examination year as their username. The password is the student’s birth certificate number or KCPE (Kenya Certificate of Primary Education) index number.
- Check placement status: Once logged in, students can view their university placement status. If placed, the system will display the university and course they have been admitted to.
- Accept or revise the placement: Students have the option to either accept the placement or apply for a revision if they wish to change their course or university.
- Admission letter: After accepting the placement, the student will receive their admission letter, which contains vital information regarding reporting dates and other requirements.
It is essential for students to be vigilant and not fall for any fraudulent websites or individuals claiming to provide placement information. Checking directly through the official KUCCPS website ensures a secure and reliable process. Following these steps will help Kenyan students discover their university placement.

- Go to your text messages on your phone
- Send your index number starting with KCSE year without space to 20842. For example; 202042579709026 or 201942579709026
- You will receive the placement results
The SMS will cost you 25 Kenyan shillings at normal sms rate.
