KURA Announces Night Closure on Ngong Road

The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has announced a temporary night closure affecting part of Ngong Road to allow for preparatory works ahead of major construction.

In a notice on Monday, November 10, the authority said the partial closure will take place near Junction Mall and will last for several hours overnight.

According to KURA, the closure is meant to facilitate a controlled test of heavy machinery movement in preparation for the next phase of infrastructure development.

“KURA informs the public of a one-lane closure along Ngong Road around Junction Mall area tonight, Monday 10th November 2025 (8:00 p.m.–5:00 a.m.) for a demo of heavy machinery maneuver ahead of major erection of steel structures. Motorists are advised to exercise caution,” the notice read.

This comes days after KURA announced a temporary traffic disruption along Ngong Road near the Junction Mall area.

In a notice on Thursday, November 6, KURA said the disruption will take place from Tuesday, November 18, 2025, to Wednesday, December 10, 2025.

The authority said the disruption will facilitate the erection of a steel structure for the flyover project, which is currently under construction.

“The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) wishes to notify the general public of a temporary traffic disruption along Ngong Road around the Junction Mall Area, effective Tuesday, 18th November 2025, to Wednesday, 10th December 2025.

“The disruption is to allow for the erection of the steel structure for the flyover currently under construction,” read the notice in part.

KURA noted that works will be carried out daily between 8:00 PM and 5:00 AM except on Sundays.

During the period, traffic will be diverted between Nairobi City County Training School and Kenya Science Campus to accommodate two-way traffic within the section.

The authority urged motorists to exercise caution and to follow directions from police officers and traffic marshals who will be deployed on-site.

“Motorists are advised to exercise caution when approaching the affected section and to observe all traffic signs and directions issued by police officers and traffic marshals who will be on site to ensure smooth traffic flow as indicated in the sketch below,” KURA added.

The construction of the Ngong Road-Naivasha Road flyover commenced in September 2024 and is expected to be completed in July 2027.

The project is being funded by a loan of Ksh3.58 billion from the Spanish of Spain Corporate International Fund (FIEM).
