Kuresoi South MP Urges Reinstatement of Four Fired Cabinet Secretaries

Kuresoi South MP Joseph Tonui lobbied President William Ruto on Monday to reinstate at least four of the recently dismissed Cabinet Secretaries, citing their satisfactory performance.

Speaking at Keringet Market in Nakuru County during a roadside rally addressed by the President, Tonui argued against a complete purge of the government.

“I don’t support that you do a clean sweep on the cabinet. There are some good cabinet secretaries, at least the four that I am defending,” Tonui claimed. However, he did not disclose the names of the CSs he was advocating for.

Tonui noted that while most of the former cabinet members had been underperforming, a select few had shown sufficient competency to warrant reappointment.

The lawmaker revealed that the President’s decision to dissolve the cabinet had surprised many in the Kenya Kwanza Coalition, especially since they had met with Ruto shortly before the announcement.

Tonui also called for a return to normalcy, stating that most issues concerning the Kenyan youth had been resolved following the withdrawal of the Finance Bill, 2024. He defended his previous support for the now-shelved bill, emphasizing its importance for his constituents’ development.

As the government undergoes reformation, the reinstatement of select cabinet members remains a contentious issue.
