Moses Kuria, MP for Gatundu South, has accused Kiambu politicians with ties to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) of conspiring against his governorship bid.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, the Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) Kiambu governor candidate accused his opponents of suspending their campaigns in order to gain support for Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi, who is also running for the County’s top seat in the August elections.
Kuria claims that while campaigning for Wamatangi, UDA politicians have actively discouraged residents from supporting his bid, despite the fact that CCK is a member of the Deputy President William Ruto-led Kenya Kwanza Alliance.
He went on to suggest that the increased attention from the UDA should instead be directed to the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance, which on paper is the biggest impediment to many Kenya Kwanza politicians winning elective seats in the August elections.
“This game is becoming interesting. The entire UDA brigade in Kiambu County has suspended their campaigns in 12 Constituencies to shore up Wamatangi’s faltering campaign and fight one Moses Kuria not Azimio. Popcorn please,” said Kuria in the post.
Kuria has previously criticized Kiambu politicians affiliated with the United Democratic Alliance.
Kuria accused the UDA party leadership in June of ignoring aspirants for the Kiambu Governor’s seat from smaller parties within the larger Kenya Kwanza alliance.
MCAs and MPs who are perceived to be leaning towards these parties, according to Kuria, have been subjected to constant threats because of their positions.
His remarks came in the aftermath of a public brawl between Kiambu County Governor aspirants Kimani Wamatangi (UDA) and William Kabogo (Tujibebe Wakenya party) at a Kenya Kwanza campaign rally in Kiambu led by DP Ruto’s running mate Rigathi Gachagua.
