Kwale Governor congratulates MP-elect Feisal and DP Ruto for Msambweni win

Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya has congratulated Msambweni MP elect-Faisal Bader and urged the residents to accord him the necessary support. – By Ramadhan Kambi.

Speaking on the outcome of the results that has now shaped the destiny of Coast politics, Governor Mvurya also thanked Deputy President William Ruto, an ally of Feisal for the support he gave to the campaign team.

I want to congratulate Mr Feisal for this achievement, but our thanks also goes to the Deputy President Dr William Ruto for his support. The people of Msambweni have decided and it is time to move ahead,” said Mvurya.

An independent candidate Feisal Bader was declared the new Msambweni MP-elect after garnering 15,251 votes in the by-election that was highly contested.

On early Wednesday , the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) Returning Officer Yusuf Abubakar, declared Mr Bader the winner and issued him with an election certificate.

Mr Bader’s main rival, ODM’s Omar Boga, came in second with 10,444 votes.

Although the constituency has 69,003 registered voters, those who cast their votes were 27,313 as the voter turnout stood at 39.5 per cent.

The exercise is over and thank God that we have come to its conclusion. I hereby declare I declare Feisal the winner for Msambweni Constituency by-election by garnering highest number of votes,” said Mr Abubakar.

Speaking after his win, Mr Bader said he will diligently carry out his duties and work with all the people of Msambweni as their MP.

“I want thank the people of Msambweni for believing in me. I want to thank all the people who walked with me through to victory. We will work with our opponents for the sake of our constituency,” he said

He thanked Deputy President William Ruto for supporting him.

He said he will work with Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya and his deputy Fatuma Achani to deliver for the people of Msambweni.

The by-election was marred by bribery scenes, arrests and all other forms of intimidation that at some times scared away potential voters.

The win by Bader has added to the long list of woes facing the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) dominance in the region, with clear sings that Deputy President Willima Ruto’s hustler nation movement is getting more attention in the region.

Last week, ODM leader Raila Odinga was in Msambweni to drum up support for Mr Boga and yesterday, Mombasa Governor and ODM deputy party leader Hassan Joho, was present in Msambweni to monitor the elections.
