Kwale Set to Host 2025 East Africa Classic Safari Rally

Kwale County is gearing up to host the prestigious East Africa Classic Safari Rally, an eight-day endurance motorsport event scheduled to begin on 5th December 2025 at Diamonds Leisure Hotel.

The rally, famed for its rugged terrain and participation of classic pre-1986 rally cars, will traverse Kwale, Taita Taveta, and Kajiado counties before returning to Kwale for the grand finish.

A delegation from the State Department of Sports led by Evans Achoki, Secretary Administration, and Kenya Motor Sports President Maina Muturi, paid a courtesy call to H.E Governor Fatuma Achani at her office to finalize preparations and strengthen collaboration ahead of the event.

Addressing the delegation, Governor Achani expressed the county’s pride in hosting the internationally acclaimed rally, noting that the event will position Kwale as a key player in sports tourism.

“Kwale is honoured to host the East Africa Classic Safari Rally. This event will not only market our county globally but also open new opportunities for business, tourism, and economic growth. We are ready to make this year’s edition memorable and impactful for our people,” she said.

The Governor emphasized that the rally will “open Kwale for greatness,” anticipating a significant boost to hospitality, transport, retail, and related sectors.

Mr. Evans Achoki praised Kwale’s readiness and reaffirmed the national government’s support in ensuring a seamless and safe rally.

“The East Africa Classic Safari Rally remains one of our most important international motorsport events. We appreciate Kwale County’s partnership and commitment, and we are confident that hosting the start and finish here will bring immense economic and social benefits,” he stated.

The East Africa Classic Safari Rally is one of the world’s toughest classic car endurance competitions, drawing over 75 countries in both local and international drivers and attracting global media attention.

The 2025 edition is expected to significantly elevate the county’s tourism profile while stimulating economic activity for local businesses.

Also present during the meeting were Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo, CECM Roads Ali Joto, Chief of Staff Joshua Mdoe, Chief Officer Social Services Riziki Mwasoza, Chief Officer Tourism Anthony Mwamunga, and other senior county officials.

As preparations intensify, Kwale County is positioning itself for a landmark event that is set to spotlight its natural beauty, hospitality, and investment potential on the international stage.
