Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers have arrested three persons of interest after being found in possession of wildlife trophies in the Lokichar area of Turkana county
In a statement on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, KWS confirmed that following a joint covert intelligence team operation, the three persons of interest were arrested with 42 kgs of elephant ivory. During the raid, the KWS also confirmed having recovered leopard and python skins.
A motorcycle used to ferry the trophies was also recovered in the raid while the arrested persons are in custody and will be arraigned in court.
“A KWS joint covert intelligence team arrested three suspects in Lokichar, Turkana County, in possession of 42 kg of elephant ivory, as well as leopard and python skins, and recovered a motorcycle used to transport the trophies,” KWS stated.
The operation, according to KWS, highlights its resolute commitment to protecting Kenya’s wildlife and bringing traffickers to justice.
Further, the KWS has stated that a live animal is worth far more than any trophy, considering that wildlife sustains ecosystems, tourism and livelihoods for generations.
The Kenya Wildlife Service has condemned the illegal acts of poaching, arguing that it destroys the future for short-term gain.
The service, in its statement, has also called on the members of the public to protect the country’s heritage by choosing to conserve the environment over crime.
“A live animal is worth far more than any trophy. Wildlife sustains ecosystems, tourism and livelihoods for generations. Poaching destroys that future for short-term gain. Protect our heritage. Choose conservation over crime,” KWS added.
