Kenya U20 sensation Aldrine Kibet is set to complete a high-profile move to Spanish La Liga side Celta Vigo in a transfer reportedly worth €6 million (Sh 900 million).
The 18-year-old attacking midfielder was scouted by former Harambee Stars player David Kenga, who now works with Nàstic Academy in Spain.
Kibet rose to national prominence while playing for St. Anthony’s Boys High School in Kitale, Trans Nzoia County.
He captained the school to a national championship title at the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) tournament in August 2023, where he was named both the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and top scorer, registering 25 goals and 27 assists during the competition.
Before his move, Kibet was part of the Nàstic Sports Academy, a youth development program affiliated with Gimnàstic de Tarragona, which competes in Spain’s third tier.
Real Club Celta de Vigo, commonly known as Os Celestes, is based in Vigo, Galicia, and was founded in 1923.
The club plays its home matches at Estadio Municipal de Balaídos, which has a seating capacity of approximately 24,870. Although Celta Vigo has never won La Liga or the Copa del Rey, they have reached the Copa del Rey final three times.
Kibet’s transfer has sparked a wave of congratulatory messages from Kenyans, including Nairobi Woman Representative Esther Passaris.
In a post on her X platform, Passaris hailed the move as a “major milestone” in the teenager’s football journey.
His parents are currently en route to Spain to attend his official unveiling on Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
Kibet is expected to play a key role in strengthening Os Celestes as they continue their quest for their first La Liga or Copa del Rey title.
