A multi-agency security team operating in Laikipia County has recovered four functional illegal homemade guns.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday, March 29, as part of the ongoing ‘Operation Maliza Uhalifu North Rift’.
The National Police Service (NPS) has praised the local communities for their support and cooperation which led to the recovery of firearms.
The recovered firearms include a G-3 rifle, an AK-47, an M-16, and a Carabine MK-1.
The G-3 rifle was recovered at Amoler Location in Pokot Central Sub-County, while the other three rifles were found at Latakweny Village in Samburu North Sub-County.
In addition to recovering the illegal firearms, the security team also seized 15 camels stolen by bandits at Sulubei Grazing Fields. The camels were positively identified and handed over to their owners.
The multi-agency security team has been conducting regional operations to curb rising insecurity and criminal activities.
“We laud the local communities for their support, and continue to appeal to any person in possession of an illegal firearm to immediately surrender the same to security agencies,” said the NPS on Twitter.
