Ruto Reveals Plan To Increase Lake Victoria Fish

President William Ruto has announced measures to reduce the rising cost of living in Kenya by increasing fish production.

He emphasized the importance of fish production in the lake basin region as an alternative to maize, a staple food for many Kenyans.

“We have to find ways to deal with the cost of living. We have to produce more food to address the cost of living. We will give fertiliser to the farmers. Food is not just maize, we must support fish production. We will restock lake Victoria, this is part of mechanisms to reduce the cost of living,” President Ruto said.

Ruto plans to build 10 more fish landing sites along Lake Victoria, in each county that touches the lake, and spend Ksh100 million to build another one in Got Kachola.

Ruto has been on a four-day tour of the Nyanza region, the political bedroom of opposition leader Raila Odinga, with governors attending and welcoming several development projects he initiated.

He has visited Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, and Migori counties.

The president’s focus on fish production and restocking Lake Victoria is part of his government’s efforts to address the rising cost of living.
