On Sunday night, 35 students from various high schools and five other people survived death after their boat hit a rock near the Lamu port area.
According to Kenya Red Cross officer Lamu Abdul Hakim Abdu, the students travelled from their villages on Ndhau Island, Kiwayu Island, and Makkoni Island.
They were returning to school on the MV UVUVI 1 boat.
The boat is said to have hit a rock in the Indian Ocean, causing its brakes to fail.
The passengers were stranded for three hours before Red Cross officers arrived and rescued all 40 people alive.
