On Saturday, residents along the Lamu coastline were treated to a dramatic showdown between a drug trafficker and Lamu Island police officers.
The peddler, a notorious ex-con who was also carrying panga, resisted arrest and jumped into the water.
Two cops who grew up along the river Nzoia’s borders, according to DCI, also dove into the water in a fierce underwater battle to apprehend the famed drug dealer.
“What followed was a thrilling chase in the stormy sea waters,” the DCI explained, “as the peddler swam towards the deep sea to elude arrest and the determined officers battled the currents closely behind.”
The criminal who would occasionally disappear beneath the water just to reappear floating at different spots, they said, handed the two men the most difficult assignment of their careers in a scene that lasted around 30 minutes.

A patrol boat at sea arrived on time, accompanied by maritime police who expertly dove into the water.
The criminal tried his underwater methods, but he couldn’t compete with the police divers.
While the suspect was being escorted along the seafront, one Ali Mohammad attempted to hinder the officers, while another, Famau Muhashe, launched a projectile at DCI officers, gravely injuring constable Leonard Mutai.
All three accused are currently being processed for arraignment and are in lawful custody.
