The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has issued a warning to its members following a violent attack on an advocate jogging in the Ngong Road Forest.Â
The lawyer, assaulted with a machete on December 15, sustained serious head injuries but is now receiving medical care and is reportedly out of danger, according to LSK Chief Executive Officer Florence Muturi.
This incident is part of a troubling pattern of insecurity at Ngong Road Forest.
Two months ago, runners and nature enthusiasts reported assaults in the same area, including robbery with violence, rape, and stabbings.
In response, LSK has urged its members to exercise extreme caution in public spaces and adopt necessary safety measures.
“We kindly urge all our members to exercise vigilance at all times,” the notice stated.
The attack highlights a broader security crisis in Kenya, with 2024 witnessing a surge in abductions, extrajudicial killings, and forced disappearances.
The Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR) condemned the wave of violence, calling it a violation of the right to life and a threat to civil liberties.
Stakeholders have called on the government to enhance security measures nationwide as the country prepares to enter a new year.
