Lawyer Danstan Omari Moves to Court Over Missing Wajir Deputy County Commissioner

Prominent lawyer Danstan Omari has filed a petition at the Milimani Law Courts seeking the urgent production—dead or alive—of missing Wajir Deputy County Commissioner Hussein Mohammed, who vanished without a trace on July 8, 2025.

Speaking outside the court after filing the application on July 13, Omari said, “We have moved to court to seek an order compelling the production of Hussein, whether alive or dead.”

Hussein, who also doubled as the Huduma Centre Manager in Wajir, is a senior public servant, and his unexplained disappearance has raised alarm among his family and the wider public. Omari underscored that Hussein held a critical post within the provincial administration, making his safety and whereabouts a matter of national concern.

The application lists the Attorney General, Inspector General of Police, and the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) as respondents.

Accompanied by worried family members, Omari said repeated attempts to locate Hussein through official channels had failed to yield any results. “It’s been several days since he disappeared. There has been no adequate communication from authorities, and we are deeply worried,” said a relative.

His brother, Abdiwar Mohammed, called for a swift, independent, and transparent investigation. He urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), and other state agencies to intervene urgently and ensure justice is served.

Omari further disclosed that a formal request had been made to the DCI to transfer the investigation file from Wajir to DCI headquarters in Nairobi for more rigorous handling.

The case now puts pressure on state agencies to account for Hussein’s whereabouts, amid growing public concern over the safety of civil servants in volatile regions. A court ruling on the petition is expected in the coming days.
