Lawyer Gicheru Requiem Mass To Be Held in Karen

Lawyer Paul Gicheru will be laid to rest on Thursday at his farm in Bahati, Nakuru County.

Even as Gicheru’s funeral preparations get underway, ongoing police investigations have yet to produce any results.

His requiem mass will be held at Regina Caeli Catholic Church in Karen on Tuesday at 1 p.m. (EAT).

Gicheru, who died on September 26, 2022, was on trial for allegedly bribing and intimidating witnesses in the failed International Criminal Court (ICC) case against President William Ruto.

There have been conflicting reports on what caused Gicheru’s death, with his family issuing differing reports.

On Friday, his body was autopsied, and the results are still unknown.

ICC prosecutors accused Gicheru of running a witness tampering scheme that influenced the outcome of the failed case against Kenyan President William Ruto stemming from the 2007-2008 post-election violence.

His trial began in February 2022, with ICC prosecutors alleging that Gicheru bribed witnesses worth up to Sh1 million.

The prosecutors also claimed Gicheru threatened the safety of the ICC witnesses, including one at gunpoint. The 52-year-old pled not guilty.
