Lawyer Tom Ouya Imbukwa has been brutally murdered in Nairobi, in an incident that has sent shockwaves across the legal fraternity.
The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) confirmed the killing on Wednesday, stating that the advocate died following a violent assault.
In a statement, LSK President Charles Kanjama said, “The Law Society of Kenya has learned with profound shock and grief of the tragic death of our colleague, Advocate Tom Ouya Imbukwa, following brutal assault and torture.”
The incident is reported to have occurred at the lawyer’s residence in Harambee Sacco estate in Nairobi, where he was found in critical condition after the attack.
He was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.
Police handling the matter indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the assault may not have taken place at his residence, with detectives exploring the possibility that he was attacked elsewhere and later moved to the house.

LSK strongly condemned the killing, describing it as deeply disturbing and calling for urgent action.
“Our colleague was assaulted, tortured and murdered by unknown persons. The circumstances surrounding Tom’s death demand our unequivocal condemnation and immediate action,” Kanjama stated.
He further urged the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to act swiftly and bring those responsible to justice.
“We appeal to any member of the public with information regarding this incident to share it urgently with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations,” he added.
The case has since been taken over by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), who are pursuing leads to identify the attackers.
The killing has drawn strong reactions from leaders and members of the legal profession.
City lawyer Peter Wanyama termed the incident shocking and called for immediate investigations.
“The recent murder of Ouya Imbukwa Advocate at Harambee Sacco is utterly shocking. There is urgent need for an investigation by the DCI. It is essential that the perpetrators are identified, arrested, and charged accordingly,” he said.
Vihiga County Assembly Speaker Christopher Omulele also mourned the lawyer, describing him as a close associate.
“It is with profound sorrow that I have learned of the passing of my brother and son, Wakili Tom Ouya Imbukwa… May God grant you strength and comfort during this difficult time,” he said.
No arrests have been made so far, as investigations continue.
The incident has raised fresh concerns over security in residential areas, with renewed calls for authorities to enhance protection and ensure justice for victims of violent crime.
