ODM Chairperson and Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga has condemned Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga over his remarks on the late Prime Minister Raila Odinga. She described the comments as “primitive, insensitive, and insulting.”
Kahiga, speaking in Kikuyu at a burial in Nyeri, suggested Odinga’s death was part of God’s plan. He claimed it would return State resources to the Mt Kenya region. He also said the alliance between President William Ruto and Odinga had shifted government projects toward Nyanza.
Wanga accused Kahiga of long-standing ethnic profiling against the Luo community. She called the remarks “a new low in our politics.” She said his words attack unity, respect, and national cohesion.
“For three days before his death, Raila expressed shock at the human capacity for cruelty,” Wanga said. She added that Kahiga’s statements are divisive and offensive.
Wanga urged Kenyans to reject tribal chauvinism. She warned that hate speech could destabilise the country.
She demanded Kahiga’s immediate resignation as Vice Chair of the Council of Governors. “This country deserves better leadership. Kahiga must go,” she said.
The viral video has drawn widespread criticism across the political divide. Many say Kahiga’s words undermine peace and fuel ethnic tensions.
