Lewandowski Fires Barcelona Past Girona to Strengthen LaLiga Lead

Robert Lewandowski’s brilliance propelled Barcelona to a commanding 4-1 victory over Girona, restoring their three-point lead at the top of LaLiga.

The Polish striker netted twice, keeping him on course for both the league title and the Pichichi Trophy.

Barcelona dominated from the outset at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, creating multiple early chances. Fermin Lopez saw an effort blocked before Lewandowski tested Girona’s goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga.

The visitors survived a VAR check for a possible penalty but couldn’t hold on until halftime. Yangel Herrera’s foul led to a free kick, which Ladislav Krejci converted following a flicked header by Lamine Yamal.

Girona briefly hit back after the break when Daley Blind capitalized on a Barcelona error, setting up Arnaut Danjuma, who finished clinically past Marc-André ter Stegen. However, the response from Xavi’s men was swift.

Lopez turned provider in the 61st minute, heading across goal for Lewandowski, who rose high to nod home his 24th league goal.

Moments later, Frenkie de Jong released the Polish striker on the left, and he finished coolly into the far corner. Ferran Torres completed the rout, converting a well-placed Gerard Martin pass.

Barcelona now look primed for a 28th LaLiga title, while Girona, winless in eight of their last eleven away matches, must regroup. With Lewandowski firing on all cylinders, the Catalan giants are in firm control of their destiny.
