Residents, business enterprises and transit goods haulers have cried foul over the sluggish construction of the Likoni road stretch that runs from NTSA to Jogoo Road. – By Gerald Gekara.
Despite the road being closed to the public for over 5 months, works on dualling the link road is far from complete.
The road that falls under the mandate of the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) was awarded a Sh900 million contract.
The project is financed by the Road Maintenance Levy Fund which motorists contribute while purchasing fuel.
Kura contracted Cementers Limited to dual the 1.7km section on Likoni Road, which will complete the dual road from Enterprise Road and the Southern Bypass.
The road will also incorporate a pedestrian walkway and cyclist path as well as an expansion of the bridge near Jogoo Road with a railway underpass.
According to KURA documents on the road upgrade progress, 5% is completed, against the March 2021 deadline.
In a response to a query concerning the completion date, the road will be completed in April 2022, an extension of about 1 year.

Businesses within the busy route have been severely expected as less people use the link road. Residents have however cautioned the KURA engineers over impending danger as the huge craters fill with rain water.
