The Kenya Lionesses, the national women’s sevens team, will face Japan in the World Rugby Challenger Series in Chile on Sunday evening after defeating Argentina in the Cup quarterfinals late Saturday night.
The Lionesses have maintained their pursuit of World Rugby core status, and Dennis Mwanja’s team is now only two wins away from accomplishing the feat for the first time.
They thrashed the Argentines 24-7 in another emphatic performance in Santiago, giving them four wins in four matches and boosting their confidence.
The Lionesses led 12-0 at halftime thanks to tries from Christabel Lindo and Judith Auma, with Grace Okulu converting.
A dominant second half saw the Lionesses add two more tries through Janet Okello and Lindo, who completed her brace with Okulu slicing the posts one before the Argentines scored a late consolation try through Marta Reding.
Japan advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Belgium 31-0.
