The government has listed numerous universities that provide legal education and offer legal training courses.
In a notice by Council of legal education CEO Mary Mutugi, she released the licensing status of the institutions as of June 30, 2023.
Institutions that have been licensed to offer a master’s in law are Strathmore Law School, Mount Kenya University, Catholic University of Eastern Africa and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
“Under the provisions of Sections 2, 8 (1) (b), 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and 48 of the Legal Education Act No. 27 of 2012, the following are the only licensed legal education providers and legal education programmes in Kenya as indicated respectively,” reads the notice.

- Kabarak University

- South Eastern University of Kenya
- Jomo Kenyatta University
The diploma in law programme is offered by Mount Kenya University, Kisii University, Kenya Institute of Management and the Catholic University of Eastern Africa.
The purpose of the council is to promote legal education and training and provide high possible standards for legal education providers.
