Litein School Fire Suspects to Face Plea on Friday in Kericho Court

Written by Joyce Nzomo

Twelve people, including eight students from Litein High School, are expected back in a Kericho court on Friday to answer charges linked to last Sunday’s arson attack that forced the closure of the institution.

The students, who have been in custody at the Kericho Children Remand Home, are accused of torching and vandalizing school property during a violent riot.

They will take plea alongside four adults; Enock Kirui, Gilbert Kosgei, Michael Rotich, and Ronald Rotich who have been remanded at Litein Police Station since their first court appearance.

The suspects were initially arraigned on Wednesday before Principal Magistrate Fredrick Nyakundi, where the prosecution requested extra time to wrap up investigations.

The court granted the application, directing that the accused remain in custody until plea taking.

Charges facing the group range from arson and burglary to destruction of property, with the prosecution expected to table its final report during Friday’s session.
