Liverpool Celebrate Title With Draw Against Palace

Liverpool capped off their Premier League title-winning season with a celebratory 1-1 draw against Crystal Palace at Anfield, thanks to a late equaliser from Mohamed Salah.

The Egyptian forward struck with six minutes left to play, securing not only a point for the champions but also clinching the Golden Boot, finishing the campaign with 29 goals and 18 assists—a record-equalling 47 goal involvements in a single Premier League season.

While the match may have ended in a stalemate, the atmosphere in Merseyside was anything but subdued.

The mood was jubilant as Arne Slot’s side returned to Anfield for their first home match since sealing the title in emphatic fashion with a 5-1 win over Tottenham on April 27. That victory had given Liverpool an unassailable lead and allowed the Reds to relax in the final fixtures.

Palace, fresh from their own moment of glory after winning the FA Cup, arrived with nothing to lose and were welcomed warmly.

In a show of mutual respect, the visitors formed a guard of honour to welcome the champions, and in a classy response, Liverpool’s players returned the gesture, applauding the FA Cup winners.

Despite the party atmosphere, Crystal Palace had their own ideas about how the match should unfold. Against the run of play, they took the lead midway through the first half.

Liverpool’s Conor Bradley was dispossessed in a dangerous area, and Tyrick Mitchell capitalised by squaring the ball to Ismaila Sarr, who coolly finished past Alisson Becker.

Liverpool pressed for an equaliser with Luis Diaz and Harvey Elliott testing Palace keeper Dean Henderson, who put in a man-of-the-match performance to keep the visitors ahead.

His standout save came just before the break, denying Diaz in a one-on-one situation.

At halftime, Trent Alexander-Arnold was introduced to a loud ovation. The local hero had recently announced his upcoming departure from Liverpool, sparking mixed emotions. But on this occasion, it was all cheers and applause for a player who has been pivotal in the Reds’ recent successes.

However, Liverpool were handed a setback just past the hour mark when midfielder Ryan Gravenberch was shown a straight red card. The Dutchman brought down Daichi Kamada as the last man near the halfway line, leaving the hosts to finish the match with ten men.

Even so, Slot’s men remained composed and pushed forward. The breakthrough finally came in the 84th minute when Mohamed Salah pounced on a loose ball in the box to draw Liverpool level.

The goal not only salvaged the draw but also brought another personal milestone for the forward, further cementing his legendary status at the club.

With the Anfield faithful in full voice and flags waving, the final whistle blew on what has been an unforgettable campaign. Liverpool finished the season as Premier League champions, a title they last won in 2020, and did so playing entertaining, high-intensity football that has come to define their modern era.

As Liverpool’s stars paraded the trophy after the game, Crystal Palace left with their heads held high, having added an FA Cup triumph to their growing legacy under manager Oliver Glasner.

For Salah, Alexander-Arnold, and others possibly playing their final matches in red, it was a fitting farewell. And for the fans, it was the perfect blend of nostalgia and anticipation — a reminder of past glories and a taste of what might still lie ahead.
