Liverpool tightened their grip on the Premier League title race with a commanding 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield on Wednesday night.
Goals from Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister extended their lead at the top to 13 points, further cementing their position as champions-in-waiting.
With manager Arne Slot and assistant Sipke Hulshoff serving touchline bans, Johnny Heitinga took charge from the dugout, ensuring Liverpool remained on course with just 10 games left to play.
Szoboszlai, who has been in fine form, struck early once again, netting in the 11th minute—his second goal in as many games following his strike against Manchester City.
Although Newcastle posed a threat in the first half, their hopes were dampened by the absence of top scorer Alexander Isak due to a groin injury.
Liverpool’s defensive resilience shone through as they limited Eddie Howe’s men to zero shots on target. The Reds sealed the win in the second half, with Mohamed Salah providing the assist for Mac Allister to secure all three points.
This victory also marked Liverpool’s 12th clean sheet of the season—the most in the league—and their first back-to-back shutouts since September. With Arsenal dropping points at Nottingham Forest, the title is increasingly within reach for the Merseyside giants.
