Liverpool Fear Significant Injury for Record Signing Alexander Isak after Tottenham Win

Liverpool are anxiously awaiting scan results after their £125m record signing Alexander Isak suffered a suspected serious lower leg injury while scoring in Saturday’s chaotic 2-1 Premier League victory over nine-man Tottenham.

The Swedish striker, introduced as a half-time substitute, broke the deadlock in the 56th minute with a composed finish from Florian Wirtz’s pass, only to collapse after a challenge from Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven.

Isak was helped from the pitch and unable to continue, with initial fears of an ACL rupture later eased, though concerns remain over significant damage.

“If a player scores and then gets injured and doesn’t try to come back on the pitch, that’s usually not a good thing,” manager Arne Slot said after the match.

Hugo Ekitike doubled Liverpool’s lead with a header soon after, but Tottenham pulled one back through Richarlison late on. The hosts finished with nine men following red cards for Xavi Simons and captain Cristian Romero.

Isak’s injury compounds a frustrating start at Anfield since his deadline-day move from Newcastle. Lacking a full pre-season after a disrupted summer, the 26-year-old has scored just twice in the league, often starting on the bench behind the in-form Ekitike, who has 11 goals this season.

Liverpool are already without Mohamed Salah, on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations, and the injured Cody Gakpo. Slot is due to provide further updates at his press conference on Tuesday ahead of the visit of Wolves.
