Liz’s Inspiring Journey with Usikimye

In a moving celebration filled with pride and emotion, the Usikimye team marked a significant milestone in the life of Liz, a young woman whose story has captured the hearts of many.

Referred to Executive Director Njeri Wa Migwi in 2020 after completing her Form Four, Liz faced immense hardship. Having lost her grandmother, her only guardian she soon fell gravely ill and was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was during this critical time that she became part of the Usikimye family.

Thanks to the support of Faraja Cancer Centre and the kindness of well-wishers within the Usikimye network, Liz received treatment and later enrolled at KCA University.

This month, Liz graduated with a degree in journalism, earning Second Class Honours, Upper Division.

Although Njeri Wa Migwi was in Bondo on the day of the graduation, the Usikimye team stood in proudly on her behalf. Liz was later taken to the Usikimye office to celebrate with the children of Soweto, a moment that brought tears to the eyes of many.

“So incredibly proud of you Liz Future Kyuma. The future is yours,” wrote Njeri in a heartfelt tribute. “You did it. Congratulations This is the WHY!!! Always.”

Liz’s journey stands as a powerful testament to resilience, community, and the impact of standing together.
