The Coalition of Grass Root Human Rights Organization has condemned the impeachment of Governor Mike Mbuvi ‘Sonko’ by the Members of Nairobi County Assembly. – By Meshack Makau
The Coalition is an umbrella of various organizations which include; Concerned Citizen Alliance, Bunge La Mwananchi and Taifa Leo Movement.
The Coalition has cited that the move to impeach Governor ‘Sonko’ was malicious and unconstitutional. Bunge La Mwananchi president John Babu told the media that Nairobi County residents were not in part of the scheme by Members of Nairobi County Assembly.
“The people of Nairobi County both voters and residents are not part and parcel of the resolution of the assembly on Thursday. ‘Sonko’ is still the Governor and was impeached without following the due process of law,” said Babu
“We the people under article one section three of the County Government act, have the authority and power to participate in the affairs of the assembly but we were denied the opportunity to participate in the process of impeaching governor ‘Sonko’, added Babu
The coalition vowed that it will not allow the power of the people be trafficked for the sake of biased political ambitions.
Teresia Kalekye a member of the coalition called upon president Uhuru Kenyatta to give an explanation why ‘Sonko’ was impeached since he has not been in active office for the last one year. She also pleaded with senator Sakaja to ‘talk’ to other senators and ‘save’ governor ‘Sonko’.
Concerned Citizen Alliance CEO Lawrence Oyugi argued that the introduction of NMS director Major General Badi was a government initiative to make things ‘harder’ for Governor ‘Sonko’. “The Government is playing tricks with us; they have taken a soldier from the Defense Forces to come and make things ‘harder’ for our Governor. We as citizens say no to that,” said Oyugi.
The youth leaders also called upon the BBI stakeholders to introduce a clause that will see MPs and MCAs recalled for the embezzlement of public funds. They also noted that there is no inclusivity in the entire BBI document and that come 2022 Kenya will go back to the stolen election ‘reggae’.
The coalition has and is still collecting signatures from Nairobi County residents. The signatures will be presented to the senate on Tuesday. The coaltion has vowed to settle for less than seeing a third handshake between Governor Mike ‘Sonko’ and president Uhuru Kenyatta.
