Lobby Group Warn Of Looming Condom Shortage Ahead Of Christmas Festivities

A civil society organization has warned of a condom shortage in the country ahead of the Christmas holiday season.

AIDS Healthcare Foundation Kenya County Director Dr Samuel Kinyanjui stated at a press conference on Monday in Nairobi that the lakeside counties, Nairobi, and Nakuru are the most affected by the shortage.

According to the lobby group, Kenyans are at risk of contracting HIV and STIs due to the country’s empty condom dispensers if the government does not find an immediate solution.

According to Dr. Kinyanjui, the market demands 455 million condoms per year, compared to the government’s distribution of 150 million.

This is despite rising cases of teenage pregnancy, HIV/Aids among the youth, and the resurgence of sexually transmitted illnesses.
