A list of 24 lawyers conferred with the Senior Counsel title have been rejected by The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) – By Gerald Gekara.
Speaking to the media, LSK President Nelson Havi stated that President Uhuru Kenyatta’s list was subject to resubmission, and was implemented ‘with impunity’.
“President Uhuru Kenyatta acted with impunity in conferring rank of Senior Counsel on the 24 Advocates. The dispute on their recommendation for conferment is still pending in Court. ” read the statement in part.
According to the LSK, the list had been recalled in May. Havi noted that the members on the list ‘were not counsels’.
“We want to call upon the Chief Justice of the Republic of Kenya, not to include the 24 advocates in the roll of senior counsels because they are not senior counsels,”
Among those who were conferred, were former Justice Minister Martha Karua and Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
