The Law Society of Kenya, (LSK) Kakamega chapter is conducting a one week legal awareness program at the Kakamega Law Courts which entails giving legal advice to the residents free of charge.

Speaking at the Kakamega law courts, Maureen Odek, the chairperson LSK Kakamega chapter, explained that during the awareness week they give legal advice to residents, litigants and citizens free of charge.

“Any citizen who has an issue that needs legal attention is welcome to seek advice at no cost.” She urged.

Odek revealed that the theme for this year’s awareness week is Kenya electoral reforms, building confidence for the future which was formed from the background that Kenya had come from an election period.

“We will address cases of the litigants who were not satisfied by the election results and other cases including disputes.” She added.

She noted that Kakamega County had a lot of problems with succession and land matters and they will give direction on how to go about the cases and find a solution.

Mulama Flavian, the secretary general LSK Kakamega chapter, asked the litigants to be vigilant as some members of the public pretend to be advocates.

“Advocates have a unique identifying mark, before presenting any case to an advocate ensure one presents their certificate of admission and the current practising certificate.” He said.
