A Section of Lawyers have filed an application to impeach Law Society of Kenya President Eric Theuri, accusing him of being complacent and aiding and abetting violations of the rule of law by failing to oppose the dismissal of Sh 15 billion criminal proceedings against top government officials.
Lawyer Lempaa Soyinka representing the applicants is attempting to oust Theuri for failing to sign a petition against the nomination of Noordin Haji as Director General of NIS.
Lempaa accused Theuri of being compromised in the State House when they escorted Haji to a meeting with the President.
“Theuri and the entire council of LSK were summoned by Haji and taken to State House where they abandoned their quest for an explanation of the withdrawal of criminal cases against high-profile government executive officers, parastatal chiefs, and businessmen traders,” Lempaa stated.
He goes on to say that Theuri cannot sacrifice LSK’s mission on the altar of personal expediency.
According to the lawyer, Section 4 of the Law Society of Kenya Act number 21 of 2014 clearly defines the functions of the law body, which include aiding the court in areas relevant to legislation and the administration of justice.
He goes on to say that LSK advocates for the preservation of Kenya’s constitution and the advancement of the rule of law.
Lempaa criticizes the LSK President for failing to join a court lawsuit brought by activist Katherine Cherotich against Haji and five others to prevent him from being considered for the position of NIS director general.
The lawyer is agitating the members of the LSK to impeach Theuri during a special general meeting to be held on July 11,2023 in Nairobi county at 11 am. He also wants the LSk members to resolve that the body participates in the lawsuit filed by Cherotich.
