LSK Raises Alarm Over Suspected Abduction of Activist in Kinoo

The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has expressed deep concern over the mysterious disappearance of Ndiangui Kinyagia, a man described as an activist, who was reportedly abducted from his home in Kinoo, Kiambu County on Sunday night.

In a statement issued Monday, the LSK said that Kinyagia was seized by individuals believed to be security agents, who arrived in a convoy of between six and ten Subaru vehicles. The group is alleged to have forcibly broken into his residence before taking him away without explanation.

“Mr. Kinyagia’s residence was surrounded, broken into, and he was taken by force. The last known contact he made was with his mother around 1:00 PM on Sunday,” LSK reported. “Since then, he has vanished without a trace.”

The lawyers’ body added that the unidentified individuals also confiscated Kinyagia’s laptops and identification documents during the incident.

A relative confirmed to Citizen Digital on Tuesday morning that the family remained unaware of Kinyagia’s whereabouts. Social media users have speculated that he may be linked to an anonymous X (formerly Twitter) account that recently posted a viral mock invitation to an upcoming anti-government protest scheduled for Wednesday. The image included a fictional itinerary featuring a march to State House and a symbolic swearing-in of a “transition council.”

However, Kinyagia’s family said they could not confirm whether the X account belonged to him.

While the full circumstances of his disappearance are still unknown, the LSK condemned the act, describing it as bearing “the hallmarks of an enforced disappearance and a possible unlawful arrest or detention.”

“This incident is a grave violation of constitutional rights and an affront to the rule of law in Kenya,” the LSK stated. “We demand swift, transparent investigations and the immediate release or production of Mr. Kinyagia.”

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
