Luhya Elders Rally Behind Dr. Wamalwa’s 2027 Bid for Trans Nzoia Governor

Elders from the Luhya community in Trans Nzoia County have thrown their support behind former Kiminini MP Dr. Chris Wamalwa’s gubernatorial bid, stating that he possesses the leadership qualities needed to spur economic growth and promote unity within the county.

The elders, who held a consultative meeting with Dr. Wamalwa at his Kiminini home, said he is ready to take over the county’s leadership, noting that his ten-year track record as a Member of Parliament was remarkable.

“We have given our blessings to Dr. Wamalwa as he crisscrosses the county to seek support from other communities since Trans Nzoia is cosmopolitan,” said Mr. Christopher Makokha, the chairman of the Luhya Council of Elders in the county.

The elders explained that they have already settled on its preferred flag bearer for the upcoming elections, emphasizing that any other candidate seeking their endorsement is too late, as they do not permit double endorsements.

“We are putting an end to the habit of elders endorsing several candidates, as this only brings division. We have made our stand clear, and we now bless Dr. Wamalwa to hit the ground running,” said Reverend Ferdinand Wanyisia.

The elders also emphasized the need for peaceful and unifying campaigns, arguing that divisive, ethnic-centered politics only derail efforts to address the genuine challenges confronting residents.

“As we head into the election period, we believe that political competition should shift away from personal attacks and divisive narratives. Instead, it should be anchored on solid ideas and development-focused,” said Cleophas Munialo.

Dr. Wamalwa thanked the elders for their confidence in him, saying he will now intensify his efforts to seek support across Trans Nzoia as he aims to become the county’s third governor and champion economic growth without divisive politics.

“To ensure that our policies and plans reflect the needs of the people, we will hold a series of similar engagements across the county to gather the views and aspirations of the electorate ahead of the 2027 general elections,” said the former MP.
